Kölner Frauengeschichtsverein (Cologne Women's History Association)

The archive of the Cologne Women's History Association documents the history of the women's movement, lesbians and migrants in Cologne and the surrounding area from 1968 to the present day. It contains written material from the bequests and estates of women and files from associations or groups of the autonomous women's movement: a total of around 110 items on 90 metres of shelving. Unique holdings include the estate of the internationally renowned sociologist and feminist Prof. Maria Mies, who died in 2023, parts of the estate of Gertraut Müller, an activist from the early days of the Cologne women's movement, and the digitised recordings of ‘Radio Lästerher(t)z’, a feminist radio programme broadcast on Cologne's community radio from 1992-2006.

The archive also includes around 30 video interviews with ‘contemporary witnesses’ of the Cologne women's movement (please set link here), 50 audio interviews with women who were involved in women's projects or women's associations, over 200 magazine titles and a poster and image database. The collection also includes brochures, leaflets, press articles and artefacts.
